One of my absolute favorite dog inspired blogs, PrettyFluffy.com, released their very first eBook today. “52 Weeks of Treats – Simple & Healthy Dog Treat recipes for Every Season” by Serena Faber Nelson with Sarah Dickerson. These two ladies filled this beautiful eBook with 26 amazing recipes just for dogs, absolutely gorgeous photos, and lots of super helpful tips and nutritional info. I didn’t waste a second and ordered mine right away. Go order yours too! It’s only $12.95 and it’s totally worth every cent. If I can find time before the Holidays are over, I’ll definitely get this loaded on the iPad while I make one of the recipes for my spoiled little Dee. I think the the festive Gingerbread Men might need to be made first. Once all the crazy Christmas orders are on their way, I’ll be making each recipe one by one to see what Dee likes best. She’s tired of her usual treats [who could blame her] so these will be the perfect solution!
Our kickstarter campaign this last month was unsuccessful. What a bummer! But, you know what they say.. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And we’ve found a way.
We are very excited to have found a company to work with to help make the cases a reality. Working with this specific company has great perks: I will have the ability to have single runs of any custom design for an affordable production cost, I’ll have control of design placement on the case [as opposed to society6], and we can print on more than just the iphone! As of right now, we have the ability to create cases for the following: Iphone 4/4s/5, Ipod Touch 4G, Samsung Galaxy S3, and Blackberry Bold 9900/9930.. More will depend on the company and what they’re able to expand to. I’ll make announcements as new cases become available.
I’ve gone in and added a few designs to the shop and will continue to add more but if there’s a pre-made design you have your heart set on that isn’t yet shown, I’ve creating a listing that lets you choose any of my past illustrations. Just choose your phone model and paste a link to that illustration. If you have a color request, feel free to let me know.

Halloween is approaching quickly with only 5 days to spare and I haven’t had time to even think about it until today. It happened pretty much the same way last year and I suppose it will continue to be an after thought until I have children. Working non-stop certainly has it’s downfalls but thankfully, I have silly Dee to make up for the costume parties I don’t really have time to attend. Last year, on Halloween, I realized what day it was and got the urge to dress her up. My only brilliant idea was to try to make her into a mummy for a quick photoshoot. Quick was not quick enough. Before we could finish wrapping her up with the easily torn toilet paper, she was out of it, chewing it to shreds and wiggling her butt in the mess with glee. As you can tell by the below photos, we both enjoyed the destruction more than the costume idea.
This year, I think I’ll buy a costume since I have a few days to actually make it to the store. :]
I recently added a new option for custom pet portraits to bring back my original budget friendly style. I’ve gone and made a few images showing the differences between both styles. The detailed images have quite a few more brush strokes creating more depth and realism and the simplistic illustrations have bold outline and fewer larger brush strokes to give them a more cartoon look. Click on the images below to view them full size and please let me know if you still have questions!
If you choose the simplistic/bold version and later, upon seeing the proof, decide you’d rather have the detailed version, upgrading is no problem! I can send you an invoice with the difference we’ll transform it to whatever you desire.
P.S. Custom pet portrait cellphone cases are coming soon! Keep a look out for the announcement!
Ever wonder why there aren’t more illustrations popping up on D&J? It’s because my real “job” is actually running Wallums.com Wall Decals.
Wallums is an online company my boyfriend Steve and I started a few years ago. We offer wall decals of a wide variety of designs and it’s run completely by just the two of us. Steve is the brains behind the company and I’m of course the designer. We both spend Sunday through Friday mornings doing production and the afternoons are spent taking care of all the other business aspects. I then spend my evenings managing D&J as well as most weekends. Often times, if I don’t have a custom order, I’ll spend those D&J designated hours sleeping or working on projects around the house. I do my best to handle both businesses but sometimes, I just have to get away from the screen. :]
Head on over to the Wallums site and see if there’s something you like. If there’s a design you’d like to see added, send me a note and I’ll see what I can do!
Make sure you use the code MICH20 for 20% off your order for being a supporter of both Wallums and Diesel & Juice. <3
Here are some photos of the production half of our shop. The other half is a print shop and our desks; I’ll get photos of those soon!
The lovely Shannon Berrey did a beautiful feature on Diesel & Juice [Thank you Shannon!] and mentioned Autumn in the beginning of her post. Autumn is a pregnant giraffe in Greenville, SC who is due any day. All chances my being productive for the day went out the window the second I read that you can watch her live on the Giraffe Cam. Autumn is not in labor right now, but the suspense of a new baby giraffe arriving is just too exciting not to have the screen up 24/7. Thank goodness for dual monitors!
When I saw the email about this great initiative PrettyFluffy.com has started, I knew I needed to bump everything on my to-do list to immediately work on my own 13 things.
The 13 Project is a Pretty Fluffy initiative that involves 13 acts of kindness towards animals before 2013… To join, all you have to do is come up with a list of up to 13 ways you can help animals before the end of 2013. You don’t need to be a millionaire, you don’t need to have a website, or be a member of a rescue organisation…All you need is the desire to make a difference. If you’re time poor, make your list just one goal – or 3 or 5 things.
Not only is this an absolutely brilliant idea but this is just the push I needed to start accomplishing some of my own goals for the animal world..
Read the Pretty Fluffy post and get started on your own list!
Here’s my list:
1. Continue to donate artwork to non-profit pet rescues who are planning art auctions/fundraisers. Actively search for new organizations.
2. Contact local animal shelters to help photograph adoptable animals.
3. Donate items in need to local shelters and rescue groups.
4. Start on creating a website platform for animal shelters and rescue groups to use. A site that is easy to setup, update, and share posts with social media. A clean, UPDATED, easy to use site that features the animals!
5. Set up a system on my own site to donate 10% of custom portrait profits to animal organizations.
6. Pin Pro-Adoption & Pro-Rescue posters and images on Pinterest to encourage others to think of adopting.
7. Design new and uplifting posters encouraging others to adopt, foster, promote the importance of spaying/neutering, etc.
8. Offer framed artwork to local shelters to help brighten up their buildings.
9. Join HeARTs Speak.
10. Feature pet photographers that donate their time to helping pets get adopted. Feature Friday?!
11. Help share any posts of animals looking for homes via twitter, pinterest, etc.
12. Attend a volunteer information session at my local shelter to see how I can get involved.
13. Share and promote The 13 Project to inspire others!

They’re ID tags not only look great, but have a unique function behind them. You’ll have to visit them to find out how it works. ;]
My little monster is growing far too fast. I can see changes in her size and personality almost daily and while I welcome the days filled of quiet snuggling, I am definitely cherishing these kitten days while I have them. Since we first brought Meela home, she’s grown almost three times in size and twenty times in energy. Her favorite thing to do is play with her duck on a stick which is quite amusing to us all. She loves to gallop around the house at full speed with the duck in her mouth while the stick drags behind her clanking against everything in her path. Occasionally she’ll bring it to one of us to dangle in front her so she can jump, flip, and spin while trying to catch the crazy duck from mid air. I laugh with each flip, finding such joy in her easy amusement.
Isn’t there a way to keep them this tiny forever? I can’t imagine her a full sized cat. I’m sure she’ll still be quite beautiful but the awkward sideways running and the missed judged jumps are going to be dearly missed.
