Yewnie is a 2 year old Calico mix with one yellow eye and one blue eye. She is blind in her yellow eye but she’s still very outgoing and playful and is VERY well loved. How could anyone give her up?!
Finding Yewnie was a happy accident. On Satuday afternoon we went off to Petco to get some new dog treats for Diesel and it just so happened that it was Adopt a Pet Day. The dogs outside didn’t interest me much but the cats always make me stop and look. Steve was petting Yewnie and the second I saw her I knew I had to have her. Yewnie was laying curled up in a box half asleep and when I stuck my fingers into her cage to rub her head she pushed back and purred. Steve read her little card which said she was blind in one eye. I begged him to let me take her home and he said no and sauntered off to find the dog treats. He probably shouldn’t have left me there because the woman from the rescue group told me all about my little girl and said she was free because of her condition. I went off to find Steve to beg him for the cat and he gave me several firm no’s. I’m used to these no’s because I’ve been begging him for another cat for probably two years now but I was determined this time. Yewnie was perfect.. She was tiny, lovable, and had the most adorable little smushed face. She’s pretty much the exact opposite of Juice.
After running the rest of our errands and returning home with lunch, I managed to convince him we give her a try. We drove back to Petco, got in touch with the adoption woman and took Yewnie home as a foster with intent to keep. We’re not sure if Juice and Yewnie are going to get along and want to see how things work out for a few weeks. We originally had Yewnie in the bedroom away from Diesel and Juice and everytime I left the bedroom after playing with Yewnie, Juice would hiss at the smell of Yewnie on my hand. She wouldn’t even eat a cat treat from me which is completely unheard of.
Today we had the cats swap rooms so Yewnie could explore the rest of the house. She hid under the couch most of the time but we did get her to explore a bit. Diesel is very interested in her but Yewnie isn’t too sure. She puffs up when she see’s her but seems to relax fairly quickly. Almost as though she was just snuck up on.. Saturday night she was laying on my stomach gently pawing at Diesel’s hip investigating. I have high hopes for those two cuddling ;]
The rescue group said her eye was perfectly fine and didn’t need any attention. She’s just blind in her right and they’re not too sure on her history. They say she’s two years old but she’s tiny and acts like a 6 month old kitten. I definitely have my doubts about their information and plan to have her see the vet to get checked out.
Oh and Steve says we’re not allowed to go to Petco on a weekend again… ahaha That’s probably a smart life choice
